Yeah that's great but should designers code?

Honestly, this is how so many "state of design" essays read to me. "Trends, tools, devs + design 4ever, great time to be a designer, be nice or else, community rah rah, btw check out my product and click the heart, thanks bye!"

I've been feeling this way lately as well. I'm glad someone finally called the whole situation out. Wonderfully written blah.

I don't get what point the author is trying to make. Surely it would be more valuable to participate in a valid discourse than write off discussions about our industry entirely with this cocksure approach of "Look how cool I am because I don't care".

    Pathetic really.

The issue is, these pieces are rarely of substance and are just written generalizations that have very little evidence and never really go much further than "I don't like x so this is bad, please subscribe to everything i think is bad. I'm CEO of my 1 man brand. Hire me"

I think the question here is whether the discourse is valid, or if the discussion surrounding an important design topic is actually beneficial.

A huge number of articles about design and the "state" of design are just the same old bla-bla-bla, yet we have created a community where we give people huge kudos (please clap?) for these pseudo-philosophical essays.

The "look how cool I am" seems to be a bit of an assumption considering the author never really contrasts themselves to it. Heck in NYC conspicuously ignoring otherwise notable things is the norm rather than the cool.

    That's a solid 28 clap post.

Come on. I'd say at least 29 claps.

you're really missing out if you don't go the full 50 claps... such a sense of accomplishment. If i could have, I would have given a clap for each 'bla'... but alas, medium has really fucked their UX up by only allowing me 50 claps. Such bad UX... bla bla bla bla bla bla

Blaaaaaa bla bla blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla blaaaaaa bla bla, bla bla?

Very interesting point. Totally agree with you here but you got few things wrong here.

Blaaaaaa bla bla blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla blaaaaaa bla bla, bla bla? Bla blaaa bla bla blaaablblaaaaa blaa babbbblaaa.Blaaaaaa bla bla blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla blaaaaaa bla bla, bla bla?

Seriously, You're going with that? First, if you look at the trends blaaablblaaaaa blaa babbbblaaa is bla bla blah and blah blah blah. Let's consider that blah blah blah first. it's not really blah blah blah blah. I get it what you're trying here but blaaaaah blaaaaah blahhhhhhhhhh blahhhh blahhhh blaaaaaa bla bla, bla bla.

B bla bla blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla blaaaaaa bla bla, bla bla? Bla blaaa bla bla blaaablblaaaaa blaa babbbblaaa.

I'm tired of telling people about Bla blaaa bla bla. Forget about the blah for a moment and focus on the bigger picture that is blaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Bla bla bla bla blaaa blaaa bla blaa blaaaaaa bla bla bla blaaa. Blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla.Bla bla bla bla blaaa blaaa bla blaa blaaaaaa bla bla bla blaaa. Blaaa blaaa blaaaa bla bla bla bla bla bla.Bla bla bla bla blaaa blaaa bla blaa blaaaaaa bla bla bla blaaa.

I've tried dribbble. Are you telling me that blaah bla blllah is waste of time? I don't get it.

Edit: I'm on the phone right now. I will write more details when i get home.

My concern here is that you seem to be talking about the cake, and frosting when really we should be talking about the sprinkles.
