Hello. I'm the creator of Interface and here to answer any questions :)
Thanks for open sourcing this!
You're welcome. I believe there should be good, free (and truly free) type faces for common use. It's almost like basic clothing that's not the personality–defining, but instead you wear some interesting details that are (i.e. some other font families can be used to add "personality")
Your site seems to be down, keen to check it out when it's back up :)
Close to San Francisco, might be a good option if you want to keep that same vibe across every device.
Awesome, looks great.
Looks really clean. Super easy to read. The only problem I have with it is, like many other fonts, It isn't super easy to distinguish a capitol "i" from a lowercase "l".
Reminds me of San Francisco. Super approachable and reads very well. Thanks!
Switching current project over now :)
I was gushing about this typeface to our designers yesterday. Great work!
Would love to hear an even more in depth story of how to make the font readable on screens. Right now it's quite a black box for me.
Nice work! It's a tweaked version of Roboto, right? Appears like some of the glyphs went unchanged in form, for example: ordfeminine, nine superior, etc. Any plans to make the entire glyph set consistent?
Edit: realized OP is not creator
Nope, not the creator, but I'd love for Rasmus to tell us a bit more about the font.
The project uses fontbuild
, a subproject of Roboto, for parts of the build system. Some glyph outlines from Roboto are also used for placeholder glyphs — glyphs that hasn't been designed yet, to allow using the font even when some glyphs are "missing." (Proper attribution has been given in src/LICENSE for some glyph outlines.txt
)
The plan is to eventually "implement" all glyphs and not need any "placeholder" glyph outlines from Roboto. However, getting there might take a year or so.
Awesome. Looks good and kudos for open sourcing it!
Awesome! Gonna try using this in future projects!
Another Roboto? Why?
Really neat – thanks for sharing. Was this designed for Figma?
It was not designed for Figma, although we've been testing it out internally for a while and really like it. However, we're sticking with Roboto for now in Figma. Maybe someday we'll switch, maybe we won't. We have a lot of non-English speakers (uhm, writers? :) ) on Figma, so we need a full-featured character set.
Neat!
Great job, will definitely use it.
Thank you. I'd love to hear & see how you use it! (I'm @rsms on the Twitters)
