DN gets search

Probably one of the most requested features for DN that we've heard since launch is the addition of a search feature. As a part of the recent DN 2.0 updates, we've done just that.

Take a gander to the link in the sidebar and give search a try. It searches through both post content and URLs. It does not search users or comments at this time.

For the technically inclined, our search is backed by the wonderful elasticsearch (http://elasticsearch.org).

The past week of updates on DN has been awesome.
This isn't important, but if you enter in a query that doesn't have any results, there's no feedback to tell you there were no results.

Fantastic addition. Very quick too!
Regarding placement, it feels a little "off" being a part of the "top" and "recent" stories section. In the same way "new story" has a divider I wonder if perhaps search would benefit from a similar isolation.

I don't think the search is indexing URL's.
I tried searching by Resposnive, Danielmall's link appeared first. Then I searched by danielmall, Oops No result :-( OK. its woking when adding .com to it.
Its better if its working without the extension.
Anyway, Great update.

searching "ask dn" gives me a 404. what's the deal?

  It does not. Not sure if the MOTD content is valuable enough to consider indexing.

    I disagree. I'd like to be able to search through them, or go back through the history.
    Edit: Current MOTD is a good example of one of the reasons I'd like to be able to search:
    “Rename *.docx to *.zip and unzip it to get all images from the doc in a folder!”
