Dribbble is about to take our jobs!!

Sup guys Im back to talk about the job postings. As you may remember, Im that dude that created the hottest debate of 2017 about how my leads were being taken from the ease of being able to change your location.

https://www.designernews.co/stories/83366-ueno-is-about-to-destroy-my-dribbble-leads-

Since then Dribbble has released Scout. To be honest this solution is cray.. Ive recently been asked to invite some designers onto a project I am working on right now for Toyota. High paying gig and would be great for some of the amazing Dribbblers in the community that Im homies with.

So when I went to go do a general search for people in the area, I was bombarded with a ton of results due to Dribbbles new ability to state where else you would be open to work. The problem is Users are now able to add other locations rather than where they live. Heres an example: dribble

You literally have no limit of where you are willing to work.

The biggest problem for me is that takes away the community aspect, and meet ups for designer in their cities. I have lived in OC / SEA / and now LA. I have found it super awesome to meet new friends by just searching LA and finding other designers with similar interest and meeting up for drinks. Now I have to go through tons of other designer to find the ones actually based in LA.

I know for a damn fact non of these dudes living even 2 hours from LA would be willing to drive to the office. Let alone the people living in Vermont saying they are open to work in LA. It has become a searching nightmare for me to hook up some dribblers in the LA for an amazing gig.

I think that this push is awesome though and will bring a lot more jobs opportunities to designers on the platform, but its too many people that they have to filter through to just find someone in their location. Meaning those recruiters are going to give up trying to deal with the amount of people not willing to relocate.

Thanks for the tip. I added 20 more locations to my profile.

Like most of the shots on Dribbble, this seems a really well thought out feature

Damn, I sure would hate this if I put all my potential employment eggs in the one "privately owned enterprise" basket.

Good thing only a fool would rely solely on a singular 3rd party service for their employment opportunities.

I always find it interesting when people post this. I honestly invested all my eggs early on into this platform.. To be honest best move I have ever made. Made a ton of connections through it and expanded my network. I think it actually makes more sense to build yourself into one network and build up a following and network. Rather than running around trying to handle a bunch of different platforms and then manage the funnel of all the leads coming in. And thats if you even get those leads in the first place, since you don't have a big enough network on those product or youre not involved enough in that community.

That's the difference between the revolving door which is an agency, and an enterprise level development firm I suppose.

LinkedIn is the closest I use to a central repository for my CV's, but I've always found reaching out for an opportunity with a physical call/email/handshake and a CV is much better than waiting for employers to navigate to a 3rd party site. Host your own site and direct potential employers to it, imo.

I don't think there's a need at all to 'build up a following' in order to get work however, and realistically you should have networking skills outside of an algorithm-driven website that does it for you... The facebooks of the world have just led you astray ;)

randomly ordered search results? easily gamed location settings? $300/mo advanced search? ship it.

Damn I didn't even think to change locations for teams on Dribbble. That might've come in handy during dry spells at Rally. lol

Wow thanks for posting this. I thought the Dribbble designer search feature was loaded with bugs. Now I realize what's actually going on. So the top designers are now top designers for every location everywhere. Hopefully they fix this because this seems broken to me.

I hope someone from Dribbble catches this post. That's great feedback.

This sounds like a broken feature. Hopefully the Dribbble team fix it. Kutos to people who realised this and worked it to their benefit!

I wish they focus on extending the shots like better support for vr, animations and high resolutions.

Anyways, not to get side tracked ... I'm LA based and will never add cities. I also never got a lead from dribbble but I gotten jobs using dribbble as my portfolio :D

I think they will for sure be adding these features soon in the future. I think their first priority was to finally be able to monetize itself.

Maybe you should look to air your grievances out on dribbble. Many have (myself included) and the new CEO just responded with a very open and honest response. It would be easier to be heard out from the source itself than jumping to a 3rd party site to discuss. That way you can open up a much more direct line of communication.

They still have this portion for looking up designers in specific cities - > https://dribbble.com/places

Scout is at the moment pretty useless. Just add 20 locations under account settings and you go. I'm sure they will change it pretty quick. They should imo bring back the old "designer" and just charge more from us for Pro accounts. They can still charge from recruiters.
