What kind of app for organising images, screenshots, bookmarks do you use?

6 years ago from , Made By Johannes

Hey DN Community. What kind of tool or app (native or web) do you use for organising your screenshots, mood boards, bookmarks and inspiration images?

I have a huge Pixave library of screenshots and interesting images for inspiration on my MacBook Pro. Before that I've used Ember and LittleSnapper (both great tools, but they shut it down). Now I'm having difficulties organising the Pixave library. It's slow, taking screenshots doesn't work that good, and it is not possible to add an item or image to multiple collections.

Some tools I've found

  • Raindrop.io
  • Droplr
  • CloudApp
  • Inboard
  • Dropmark

I used Ember, but having everything in an app that wasn't supported anymore worried me, didn't want to upgrade my OS and ember stops working! I tried many things, but settled on Raindrop. Very similar to Ember and the pricing is really fair. My Raindrop

True but it does have a basic one. If you add a link, and right click there's an option to "Create Page Screenshot". If I want a full page screenshot I just use paparazzi or awesome screenshot in browser and drop the image into raindrop.

Been following your progress on PH for some time now. The app look beautiful. Just wondering if there's a way to share or collaborate on specific boards with others through Dropbox. Anything like that in the works? I work with one other person as a freelance photographer/designer.

Though Ember has been shut down, it still works really well.. I use it daily.

Hypershoot looks great. I have always used pinterest for my screenshots but this is better... What would be good is if they could be linked. i'd like to be able to easily migrate all my screenshots to hypershoot from pinterest if possible.

These days I'm putting more and more of my bookmarks and links into notion. It helps that I can add notes for some context and share it easily with my co-workers.

Of the Apps you mentioned, I like CloudApp https://www.getcloudapp.com/ the best, mainly because the tool allows for not only organizing and cloud storage of screenshots, but the dashboard has visual search built in. Also, their screen recording capability is indispensable to my daily workflows.

You will kill me, but the only APP I use to organize images is… OS X.

I use my own tool I built: https://github.com/mezdef/0curator

I like keeping and having offline access to the library of image files in my dropbox and wasn't completely satisfied with any of the systems out there, so I built this little tool to sort and view them.

Just drop the file in your folder, open it, and select the folder you organize your inspiration in. Would love any feedback etc. Hopefully useful to someone other than myself.

How future proof are all these and will you be able to export your data if the service is closed?

I have used Evernote for 9 years now and it doesn't feel like they will shut down any time soon. 13000 notes so far (mostly pictures) and no problems.

I use my own site Wookmark. Started building it years ago. To be honest, it still has a long way to go (e.g. screenshot functionality, better collaboration, Sketch plugin), but it works great for me and I'm continuously improving it. If you end up taking a look, would love to get your feedback.

For anybody interested in importing their Ffffound accounts to Wookmark, just create a Wookmark account (20$/year) and reply with your account info. I have an import script that works great (just imported a Ffffound account with 5000 images earlier this week).

Finder. Tags. I used to mess around with other tools, but nothing beat the simplicity and convenience.

+1 for [Dropmark](dropmark.com). You can save a page (URL), take a screenshot or save a particular image. Super easy to organize with tags and collections.

It has some more collaborative tools in it that I've just never had the opportunity to use, like annotations, conversations, etc... that seems really useful if you're planning on using it with others.

Evernote is a great tool once you get rid of the bloat and useless features and learn how to use the command+J search feature.

You can search text in PDF's and images, tags, folders. Use the web clipper in combination with the osx app and you have the perfect tool to capture anything.
