Nice work Karri and the team at Airbnb!
I saw something similar from the Facebook team in November and haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. Are you familiar with Keyframes (https://code.facebook.com/posts/354469174916519/keyframes-delivering-scalable-high-quality-animations-to-mobile-clients/)? What is the main difference between Lottie and Keyframes?
Hi Kunal! I'm one of the designers at Airbnb who helped out with Lottie. The main difference is the amount of After Effects features we support. Things like solids, masks, dotted lines, trim paths, etc. Facebook picked a small set of After Effects features to support, since they were focusing mainly on reactions and keeping the library compact, but we want to support as many as possible.
I just started playing with Bodymovin today, so I'm super excited to see this for native apps! Can't wait to play.
This is awesome! If you need something similar for web have a look here: https://github.com/bodymovin/bodymovin
edit: just noted that you need to have bodymovin installed O_o stupid me...
I've used this library, pretty fantastic!
Awesome stuff guys!
@Karri @Salih Does anyone know how to use this when design it for iOS? can we create the canvas based on @1x in AE, then when it's exported, the results can be scaled up to different res?
Hi Bady! Yes i usually work @1x in AE and export as @1x and the results can be scaled up to whatever size you need.
Sometimes if the details of the asset are too small to work with in AE at 1x, I will make a 3x composition, work in that and then when its time to export i will attach everything to a null, scale everything down to 1x and make the composition @1x before I export. It's especially hard to work in a 50x50 box in after effects if your animating something small.
This looks great, nice work to all involved!
This is actually pretty cool. Nice work team airbnb!!
Great stuff!
Looks awesome.
