Hi all! I'm the person who made this. If you have any questions or feedback, I will be checking the chats here all day.
It's always nice to see you engaging the audience. You're definitely one of my favourite content creators.
That's super cool to hear, Nate! It really means a lot.
Been reading these for years and still loving them. Thanks for making this.
That makes me feel like a vet! It's my first "still loving them" as opposed to just regular "loving them" -- thanks for being along for this surprising ride!
Thanks for including a bit of Sarkeesian's tropes work in this! That was unexpected and awesome callout.
She definitely opened my eyes to a lot that I should have already noticed. Thankful for her work!
Am I understanding correctly that if a woman is kidnapped it must be because she is a woman and the captor is a man? Surely this assertion is itself sexist and helps no-one.
You must be fun at parties
Argument: 10/10
Dude, when I downloaded and started to play game I was like "User onboard going to have a field day with this one"
The whole country selector thing just blew my mind. Come on Nintendo!!!
Great work!
It's so awesome to hear you thought of UO! And yeah, a field day indeed...
Tutorial gameplay review! What a great idea. Man I would love to do that for games, I should maybe look into this... hmmm...
Bring it, Phil!
Nintendo's UI's are often hilarious like this. I remember the Wii from Wii U data transfer which was literally an animation that lasted 4/5 hours of PIkmin(Nintendo characters) that carried your data physically to a new machine.
Don't get me started on the Nintendo 3DS eShop either. That's such a UI disaster. Strange too, they used to be very good at 'Start - > Play' during the 90's and 00's.
That is super funny -- I didn't know about the data transfer animation!
Another great read! There's always some new tidbit in these I can learn from. Onboarding is deceptively complex! (to get right)
Super cool to hear! What was the tidbit(s) this time, if you don't mind me asking?
Right around slide 46 about the unnecessary dead end is where I got the most value. That's just one more way to optimize where most folks go for the standard options of yes/no without considering an alternative. Dig it.
Great reference to The Hudsucker Proxy! I'm always impressed to see the types of movie or pop culture you work in. Another great onboarding.
I was wondering if anyone would get that one! :)
@Kamil Thank you for sharing this, Kamil!
My pleasure, it's a joy to read your teardowns
And... it is definitely a joy to share them.
