If MailChimp ever gets disrupted out of the top spot of email apps, I'm pretty sure it'll be because they'll have allocated more resources to creating awesome graphics, cool plush toys, reports, posters, books, and basically everything other than working on their actual product…

Curious about your opinion on the product Sacha?

I think the product is quite good, especially after working with iContact and dozens of other horrendous email marketing tools. Campaign Monitor is the only other alternative I've used that even comes close.

With that said Mailchimp does get very expensive, very quickly.

I think it's ok, but there are a ton of areas for improvements. Their UI is confusing, the templates are pretty ugly… I don't know, maybe it's just me.

BINGO! Every time I use Mailchimp I feel like I'm fighting against the tooset in order to make it behave the way that I'd want it to. Nothing is fast, nothing is clear and theres no one bothering to challenge them

I think to MailChimp's credit they've been introducing a number of new features and improvements in 2016, and tidying parts of their existing product. But I totally see where Sacha is coming from – the templates and email creation part of the product still feel very "early 2,000s". The MailChimp brand is so strong that it must help retain customers that would otherwise look elsewhere for better tools.

Must have taken a whole year to do this.

It's very cool, but quite excessive. I'm not sure how necessary all of this is. Being so expensive they can probably afford to waste money on it :)
