I have mixed feelings about this. I can't think of a good reason why you would want to categorize illustrators by ethnicity, religion, and orientation… To me this feels like trying to fit people in boxes, not promoting diversity.
Actually had the same feeling about it. I really don't need this extra information in order to appreciate someone's work.
I noticed that also. First it says "East coast (US)" and I'm like ok we are dividing countries into parts. Then it says "Europe" ... ehm that's a continent - and what happened to the East or West? Then it says "Multiracial", "Jewish" etc. and I thought why on earth that was religion or race relevant information compared to e.g. drawing styles, preferred types of projects etc.

Depends on the project, honestly. Here in Atlanta, there's several publications that want to work only with Southern artists. Or an LGBT organization that wants to use an LGBT artist. Or a Latinx group that wants to use Latinx artists. These women may not be found otherwise just based on the quality of their work, and this site is a great way to discover this talent and increase their visibility.
This is awesome!
Amazing to see so many different styles at once.
