wow. it's 9000% faster, i don't care what it looks like.
No kidding. Blazing fast, but the design and experience leaves more to be desired.
Pros:
Cons:
I don't know where to look
I agree, it's quite hard to focus and pick out titles and related "cover photos". I really like Polygon's (The Verge's gaming-centric sister site) layout.
The all-caps titles are really hard to read.
so... basically taking visual cues from Stranger Things, eh?
More of a refresh, was expecting bigger things with the month long hype train they were pushing.
Lot faster now, which is great
Yeah, haha, not as big of a rebrand as they were making it out to be. We've seen companies do a complete rebrand without saying much of anything which is funny. :P
Been a Verge reader since "This Is Your Next"... But this is really bothering me. Why can't they seem to nail body text styling? On the previous design it was way too thin, who's bright idea was it to use Light weight at 17px before?
Now it seems too bold and bulky. They're using Helvetica at 18px but it seems as big as Mediums body text of 21px. It's annoying to read, how can they overlook such an fundamentally important part?
Overall it's an uplift, but couldn't say I'm 100% onboard.
Finding the homepage is a bit lost and lacking in hierarchy, but the article pages are really lovely.
Don't mind the redesign, but I'm going to miss those serifs on the wordmark. It was quite a unique look for a tech site, but now its kind of blending into the ambiguity of all the geometric sans serif logos that have recently emerged.
I thought the same thing, but maybe because those art nouveau typefaces are kind of trendy at the moment, I'd expect that led them to go a little more grotesque.
Rad.ical
Umm.. what exactly is the redesign? It feels a bit too loosely defined; with a few visual changes here and there.
I rarely visit theverge.com, so I don't know if it's been like this for a long time or if it came with the new design: what happened to the navigation on article pages?
Let's take these two[1][2] articles as an example. There's no navigation on those pages. Am I missing something?

Inspired by star wars? :)
It's quite cool but the typography is a bit all over the place and once you get past the main hero article section it is a bit of a mess.
Feels like every other tech site now.. boring.
I want my MTV.
This is so fast! Aside from the design, can we get some details on the tech?
Suspect it's mobile first The news tiles/rows work well on mobile Don't get the black/white switch Menu text too small on iOS
The new homepage bothers me somehow, now it really looks like all other tech sites. I'm assuming some of their decisions had to do with heat maps and other user data, but that long ass list after the hero unit really does not make it for me. The body text is a bit heavy, but the article page doesn't bother me as much as de homepage.
that flash of unstyled content :D
Its faster and more funy design. Only think that I'm missing is the orange.
