the treehouse form experience kinda reminds me of old rpg games, where you just press next multiple time so you can get to playing the f***ing game. I really don't see value in chat many of the times, a better solution would be to build intuitive, personalized products. many times it seems that the chat interface is just a gimmick.

Indeed. Most of the time I feel like chat is just annoying and slows me down. I just want to put in all my information in one go without all the back and forth.

i'm not entirely sold on conversational UIs, as they are not without tradeoffs. the Treehouse form, for example, would take the user a minute or two to complete what could have been 3 traditional form fields: email input, select credit card on file, interests dropdown.

it inarguably feels more human and natural to interact this way, but it's very indirect, inefficient and error prone. is that the best experience for your users? maybe.

If you are honest and try to actually use one of these bots, you get something along the lines of this: https://blog.widgetic.com/the-first-website-1628a6a39649#.trpi7ogi4

It seems people think that if we say, "Chatbots are the future" enough times, it will actually happen.

Jack was one of the first examples that came to mind when I started putting this article together. I love how friendly and approachable the quote page makes something that is traditionally quite boring.

      Great work Ashley! :)

Jack is a great example, and one of the few areas where a conversational approach is actually appropriate and is an improvement to the experience.
