I like to start with a blank page in a large format notebook. I start jotting down sketches or ideas that come to mind and, when I've reached some kind of concrete idea, ask myself to redo everything in as different a way as possible. That's how I find inspiration — challenging yourself to step back and redo is tough. I think it's better for you than hitting behance when you need ideas, though.

It's important for me to not have outside influence at any early part of the process. Good music or a good cup of coffee is the best way to jump start the mind. Disconnect yourself from the computer if you want real inspiration, I think.

I like http://styleboost.com/ and http://designdelight.net/ but lately more than often I have been using Dribbble . On full moons I turn yellow and surf http://www.baubauhaus.com/ sometimes with the safe filter off.

I usually go to the same places listed on this thread but sometimes I read other blogs in related fields and see how they pertain to my design process.

For instance, I'm really into music and play around with Ableton from time to time as a hobby. I read this blog about beat making: http://www.beattips.com

So something as simple as choosing a kick drum sound you want to use is analogous to putting together a good type system for your project. The questions you ask yourself in that sound design process give you different perspectives when you design something visually.

A bit indirect, but at least it has a chance of introducing you to another perspective outside of the echo chamber from time to time.

However, I'm an advocate for stepping away from the computer for inspiration. I find most of my inspiration comes from traveling (be it somewhere different thats near or far)
