Wow Yitong super impressed with your recent work and portfolio site.
I was lucky enough to meet Yitong when he was first working on his startup, and while he was clearly talented back then, the progression and maturity of his work and process is overwhelmingly advanced—descriptive, thoughtful and visually compelling. I would suggest dropping the 'junior' from your job search!
In terms of finding a new gig, it'd help if you clarified the type of work you are looking for, whether it's a type of industry (saas, tools, content, literature :D ) or role (product, marketing, all-around). When we were recently hiring frontend designers, I'd first gauge what they were interested in doing then examine their portfolio through that lens. For your work that legibility is a bit hazy but could easily be remedied with a bit more homepage copy.
Either way, still thrilled with how great the work is. If you're looking for something in SF, feel free to hit me up, I got a bunch of contacts down here who could use someone with your talent.
Moe, so kind of you to say that! This totally made my morning haha. Just changed my index copy to reflect some of the feedback.
I'm actually looking for something in the bay area, so I'll definitely hit you up via email!
Probably the best portfolio site I've seen in the past couple of years - great job, love it!
It is terrific, one notable thing that I immediately found, when compared to your old site, is how the sidebar information leads your eye from project to project. It felt quite relaxing and didn't experience any strain on my eyes.
Enjoy your new site!
Aww thanks! Didn't know people were going to click on my old site link haha. Maybe I should link my old old site from the old site too haha. It'd be an interesting rabbit hole to go down.
Inception! Looks great tho, second time through.
It's not much, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. This is is my first time looking for a job in design, coming from a business school / founder background.
To those who've hired junior designers before. - What would you think if this portfolio landed on your desk? - Should I keep polishing this up or start applying for jobs?
Start applying. This is a solid junior product design portfolio. Case studies are tricky to say the least and take a ton of time to put together so tactfully. Go for it.
Practice explaining your projects and design experience verbally to friends/family/anyone who will listen, as this will be key in initial interviews.
One note - personality goes a long way, I'd recommend expanding upon the about section to give your reader a stronger impression of your personality.
This is really solid advice! Thanks. Gonna hit up my friends and practice.
This portfolio took its place in my best of. :) Well Done!
