I really missed Rdio's UI, so I reverse engineered the Spotify Mac app a little bit and created a theme. Any suggestions to make this better? I'm planning on creating a skinning framework based off of this soon so you can all roll your own Spotify themes!

If anyone runs into issues or sees something that could be improved (which is likely), please file an issue on Github! https://github.com/devinhalladay/spotio

This is my contribution to the project. I would try this so we don't get confuse which app we are using when choosing on Spotlight. rdiofy

FYI I just released an update, but since there's no update system built in (yet) you'll have to redownload from the website.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you allow opening applications from anywhere in your Mac's Security preferences, otherwise this app will not work.

This is a really, really bad advice. You can get the same result on an app basis by right clicking on the .app icon and click Open; the OS will ask you if you want to trust the app and will sign it for you.

It's really not bad advice, this is a common setting that most designers and developers have enabled. Bad advice would be to disable System Integrity Protection, but I'm not asking for people to do that. macOS sandboxing would prevent any damage done by unidentified apps, anyways, and the Spotio target audience is designers and developers (the only people who used Rdio), so they know how to handle themselves.

I do agree that I need a better workaround than asking everyone to enable this setting in their preferences, but allowing apps from anywhere is a perfectly fine thing to do. No harm will be done to any Spotio user through enabling that setting.

Love it. Instantly replaced default after download. One tiny self-bothering problem, the song rating is somewhat hard to see.

perhaps something like this? either way, phenomenal work!

Awesome!! Thanks for the tip, I actually noticed that last night but it slipped my mind. I'll push an update a little later tonight. I've gotta get an update system going as well so you guys don't need to keep redownloading the app all the time

Awesome!!! I'm so glad you like it!! My goal was to have at least one person like it enough to replace their default Spotify app :) Let me know if you run into issues or if you see something that could be improved!!

Hi Devin, this looks awesome! I haven't had a chance to download yet, but I did have a question. As a non-user of Rdio, I was wondering if the playlist sorting/categorization was a feature they had or something you implemented while building this out? I love Spotify but as an avid playlist creator I've been wanting better playlist management options, haha.

By the way. Has anyone from Spotify reach to you? I wondering on their take on this?

Haha, nothing from them yet. I'm lowkey waiting for an email from someone but as of now I've heard nothing

This is rad. If you could somehow magic up a fullscreen, big artwork player, like rdio had, that would be super rad.

I imagine it would also be a little trickier than what you’ve done so far. Would still be rad, though. I’ve been using spotify with the little album art thumbnail stretched out as far as it will go, but it just isn’t the same.

*Shit, probably deep in the minority in missing this. Just like with wanting a sensible play queue and abolishing 10,000 song collection limits. *
    …miss you, rdio :.(

I have lots of plans for the future but we'll see what happens!! Pandora just made a big announcement about securing rights for streaming music which means we could have another Rdio-like service in the near future since the old Rdio team still largely works for Pandora

I’ve been hoping we’d see an rdio+ out of pandora since they announced the purchase! Can’t wait, but in the meantime, your skin scratches my itch pretty well!

This thing blew up! It's on engadget, the next web, and [the verge](www.theverge.com/2016/8/22/12594202/rdio-spotify-mac-light-theme-devin-halladay-design).

Thanks everyone for sharing and for being so supportive! You're too kind :) I hope you all enjoy Spotio!!

Check back in a week or so for some big updates (cough cough, Windows, cough cough, Linux, cough cough, internal update system)
