all of the images in that article are mockups, with placeholder text.
curious why an app with such stellar numbers doesn't show actual images of the working software?
also..what did it look like before? (adding onto the previous comment,) what were the numbers before for comparison?
Hello!
Sorry for the late response, this is a design case that's why we are showing our design and not the implemented look. The numbers are for the three months after release. Things evened out after a while, and if you live in Japan you might also notice that their local vendor have redesigned the whole app since we launched it one year ago :( We're not sure why.
Does anyone else look at the stats at the bottom of this and think that they seem wildly overstating the value of this redesign?.. This is great UI work, but I am finding it difficult to buy into these stats..
"The app soared to 13,5 million active mobile users" - uh... ok? In what period? in the two months? What was the previous MAU count?
"Claiming 26.94 million vouchers" - compared to how many claimed with the previous version? Was there an uplift? Was this a new feature compared to the last product? Was there a marketing campaign pushing this? or was it purely driven by this new apps insanely great usability?
"raising their total spend with 15-20%" - I don't even know what this means.. Are you saying that McDonalds saw a 15-20% increase in revenue because of this new app?.. Fucking seriously? If so.. that is.. monumental..
Driving 20% of McDonald's Japans total sales.. What was the previous app driving? Tell us the uplift, not the total.
Hello,
Late response and I'm sorry. I'll try to answer some of these questions to the best of my knowledge.
This was not a redesign but rather a app launch. That is, there where no McDonalds app in Japan before this. It was also widely marketed in Japan at the time of the launch. Vouchers was the main feature and it was a new feature.
Worth noting, this is a design case and the numbers are for the three months after release. Things evened out after a while, and if you live in Japan you might also notice that their local vendor have redesigned the whole app. :(
Japanese UI has always fascinated me. Although they're infamous for terrible web design, they seemed to have created UI patterns that differ somewhat from the rest of the world and are great at using color.
Nintendo Japan's website is a good example. (Sound and flash warning.)
