Show DN: The Reedsy Book Editor — Write and Export a Beautifully Typeset Book

almost 7 years ago from , Reedsy

Hey DN! I've been designing a free writing tool for authors. The Reedsy Book Editor takes the typesetting power of InDesign and makes its free and accessible to all authors looking to craft beautiful books.

Today we received a book in the mail from an incredibly happy author who had just printed their book straight from our editor. Check out the photos and read about her experience here. Needless to say, we are incredibly proud of the final that's now available on Amazon, but of course you can judge that for yourself!

The Reedsy Book Editor provides a simple interface where authors can import their book and export to professionally typeset print-ready PDF templates and ePub files that are instantly ready for publishing. We've been working with the leading ebookstores and print-on-demand companies and have achieved compliance with their requirements.

Let me know what you think about it! All feedback welcome, the tool is new and many great features are coming soon :)

If I were an author I'd be all over this! It's clear you all have spent a lot of time thinking about and perfecting the design and message for Reedsy. Excellent work, and I love the illustrations on the site :)

I’m curious—how do you “take the typesetting power of InDesign”? What kind of algorithm do you use for paragraphs?

Looks interesting, how well do you support features that might be interesting for people who want to write their thesis? Images, sources, graph annotation ect.

      Hey Stef, good question!

Currently, the editor supports images, captions and endnotes that may assist in the creation of a thesis report, but I'll be honest it's not the primary focus of the editor (at the moment!) - We want to give authors an effortless way to prepare their book for printing and publishing.

That being said, we are steadily releasing new themes and have been thinking about one that could be designed for theses. The editor is extremely flexible in terms of development potential, we could eventually support LaTeX integration to help typeset Math and graphs for example.

      I hope this helps :)
