It's easier to integrate high value advertisements into video than it is into text. Probably just a coincidence though...

Yeah Facebook's really arching up about how they'll be the future of the Internet, and they'll define the future of the Internet their way. Don't seem to understand the concept of the free and open web. Video can be expensive to create and publish (device, storage, bandwidth, connection) when we look at a global scale. Text is not. I can't imagine a world where in crisis situations, or in breaking news situations, that people turn to video as a means of communication. I wrote a response to John Lax's recent comments at Semi Permanenet Conf, not unlike this theme Nicola presents:

Err, I believe we live in that world. TV versus print news.

I mean like personal expression. As in, if you want to tell your loved ones you're ok, or call 911. I mean like EVERYONE communicating not one news channel reporting to everyone.

While I agree the adoption of video is expensive, I can absolutely see it becoming a key method of communication. I doubt it'll overtake text anytime soon, but you only have to look at the popularity of Snapchat to see that people are starting to really latch onto video.

Some should tell Nicola about the Lindy effect. Enthusiasm is good but overconfidence is stupid.
