Ask DN: What magazines are you subscribed to?

7 years ago from , Freelance Designer/Web Designer/Film maker

Hello! I was looking at magazines the other day, and I am wondering what you guys are subbed to, or what magazines you like? For example, I am loving the great discontent mags, the 99u mags, and Printed Pages.

What magazines or other reading material would you guys recommend?

Ill check those out! I have heard of Eye magazine before, but they have no preview at all, just the covers. What would a general mag look like? (is it design inspiration, interviews, etc?)

You must not have seen their “Eye before you buy” video series: https://vimeo.com/66804588

Eye is not the conventional shiny-looking, lavishly produced image collage book. It’s the most text-heavy design periodical I have encountered so far. Much content is in-depth. For an issue they did a long interview on Fred Smeijers. In addition, it is heavy on theory that is also delivered on proper prose. Finally, the level of breadth is rare, e.g. they’ve spent an entire issue educating the western designer how Arabic typography works.
