The explanation video is amazing. So good. I am going to Chicago this weekend and have a Wunderlist full of places but now I'm going to give this a shot. Was just asking someone if an app like this existed...

Good idea and entertaining video but why not just do all this using Google My Maps feature?

I've been mapping places in categories and directions using My Maps for 2 years now and most recently using iOS Google Maps native app for it. Maybe I'm missing something here?

You can hammer in a nail with a shovel, but a hammer is a better tool for it.

Are you saying that apps that are focused are better than apps that do more?

If the shovel easily converted to a hammer and back to a shovel as needed would it not make it a better or as good as just a hammer?

This is a really interesting question in general — and I'm inclined to think that a product with a focus is better than a product that does multiple things at an "ok" level.

          Jack of all trades, etc..

Except for a penknife, a penknife rocks (but mostly because of convenience & portability, I doubt anyone would choose to eat their dinner with penknife if a regular knife & fork were available).

Absolutely. How many times have you personally used a shovel to hammer in a nail?

Hi Lukas! My goal was to design an app that really excelled at this specific use case in terms of UX. I've used Google My Maps but I found it more of a desktop power tool, rather than a simple, fast, mobile-first kind of experience. To me, on iOS, My Maps feels shoehorned into the flagship Google Maps app.

If you try Relay I think you'll be surprised at how much better the whole experience is! I spent a long time designing and optimizing the UI ;)

Well done Oliver, fantastic app! Absolutely well worth the price you've put it at. Great job dude

That makes sense and I congratulate you on your new app. In no way do I want you to think that my comment is questioning the quality of your app. As a product owner & designer myself I believe its very important to help others by sharing a different and honest perspective. Especially if it helps owners of the product realize earlier that their investment of time and money is a high risk investment. I've been there myself and would have hoped someone would have asked me tough questions early in the product life cycle. I know that if someone gave me honest feedback early it might have saved me time and money over the years.

As for Google's Map App: I personally find the UX of Google Maps just enough to fit my needs when traveling, this applies to me only as I haven't done research to learn about others.

Best of luck with the app, it looks great! I will be sure to try it sometime.

It's coming up in my App Store phone search (I searched "relay maps") it's listed at £1.49 Relay

I read that Apple were experiencing search issues across their stores yesterday I believe, so that may be an issue...?

      Anyway, I hope that helps

Cool. I’ve used http://www.jancornelissen.be/atlas/ on my last trip and it was great! Also useful when looking for a house/apartment – not everything is sold digitally just yet :-)

Hey Oliver, Does it work offline? Like can I download maps/location info locally so I can just use GPS when I'm on my trip?

All the location info (pins, notes, etc) are stored locally. Offline functionality isn't explicitly supported for the map itself but the default behaviour of the system is to cache quite a lot of map-tile information. As long as before you go offline you "inspect" the areas of the map you want to use you should be fine. I've used it offline a few times myself and it works reasonably well. I'd say the feasibility depends on whether you're walking around a city (small map areas) vs going on a road trip (huge map areas). Hope that helps!

Very nice, though when are you adding pinning of locations? The search is pretty slow and a lot of the locations for which I'm searching aren't appearing as options (in Kampala, Uganda btw). Been trying to tap and hold on the map to no avail...
