Anyone else confused at Photoshop CC's direct select tool behaviour?

10 years ago from , Designer at Shopify

We recently upgraded to Photoshop CC at the office and I'm finding the single thing that is constantly hampering my workflow is the way they have changed the direct select tool.

Gone, it seems, are the days when I could simply click a shape to display it's editable points, drag a window over the ones I wanted and start nudging.

Now it's a messy game of CMD+H and attempting to click exactly on top of the points I want for fear of selecting points from another crossing shape.

Am I completely missing something? I can't fathom how this perceived as an "upgrade" when it seems to take 5x as long to edit iconography and shapes...

Completely agree, they need to fix that issue ASAP!

Protip: Use the direct select tool instead, and make a keyboard shortcut to take any shape into Isolation mode. I use CMD+OPT+i. Once in Isolation mode, you can CMD+Click other items to bring them into Isolation mode.

I had the same trouble when I switched over.

Apparently there's a new isolation mode (similar to Illustrator) that you can access by double clicking on the object with the direct selection tool. You can have multiple objects in the isolation mode and quickly grab as many points as you want.

It was hard at first, but I'm used to it now. Not sure if it has sped up my workflow, though.

Except it's not really an isolation mode, at least not like Illustrator, it just turns on layer filtering with the filter type set to "selected" and there's no quick way (as far as I can tell) to switch back to all layers when you're done.

It's kind of a slower process but if you select the nodes you want it will select all the layers underneath, then you can tap on just the layer you want and photoshop will keep the node selection for just that layer.
