Very nice. One thing I noticed was when I hit "View Work", the images in the background didn't brighten much, which made it seem like it was still inactive.
My suggestion would be to make the state-change a little more obvious and noticeable.
Great looking site!
I totally know what you mean. I agree, it probably needs a little re-balancing. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
I agree with Calvin about the state change. But also on the project view pages the scroll animation might be better if you did some device sniffing and showed the animation in the direction someone's finger would move.
Eg: on iOS you would push up to scroll down.
Seems counterintuitive but I had to pause for a second. Might be worth user testing if you can. :)
Oh man, that would be some next-level interaction. Great idea, I'd have to look into implementing it. Thanks!
Hello Jason, congratulations!
Your portfolio is great. I really like how you go into detail with each portfolio item. Here are a few ideas I came up with:
Seems like your "homepage" actually is your "works" page. So it makes me think one of them is unnecessary. Why make your users click on one more button to interact with your content? The very first screen is somewhat blocking my way to experience the site.
It is a "portfolio" allright, but is it really "personal"? I would like to find more information about who you are and you give a brief information on contact page but it was not the first place I would look for such information.
Wonderful portfolio, congratulations again!
Hey Recep, thanks so much!
I totally agree with you on both points; to answer the "why" of the first one, I didn't want people to continuously encounter the little intro overlay when they want to keep returning to the work page.
It does need to be more personal, doesn't it? I don't want a whole page about myself, but I guess it would make sense.
Thanks again for the suggestions!
Love the transitions / animations on site load. Feels very smooth. Clean and crisp. (I'm on a MBP 15")
Btw. Did you front-end dev aswell?
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! Yes, I did code it myself.
I really like the overall structure / feel of it. I would just make the "splash page" screen happen automatically somehow. Basically, i dont want to have to click a button to get into the work.
That's interesting; I could certainly implement a timer to have it "fade-away" after ~2-5 seconds, but it's pretty much the only place on the whole site that has my name on it so I'd like to make sure it's read. It's a great suggestion though, and I very well might use it. Thanks!
As a whole I feel most - if not all - of the animations happen far too slow.
Some places have animation that serves no purpose and stalls the experience too much. The contact page is a good example. If someone wants to contact you, they shouldn't have to wait a couple seconds while text floats in - especially filler.
Some of your rollover animations and states are a bit funky... check out the bottom of the contact page. Those elements do not act as "nice" as the ones at the top of the site.
Add better back-button functionality. When I clicked into a portfolio item, I instinctively wanted to hit the back button and check out something else. When you do this though, the site resets to the initial splash (and animation) and I have to click a button again to view the work. Not everyone is going to hit "next" at the bottom of a particular page - especially if they started out of order.
Thanks for the clearly well-structured critique.
I get what you mean, but I'm happy with it where it is now. I want the animations to feel really smooth, which doesn't happen if they go too quickly.
This I totally agree with, but the delay was intentional. It's meant to be read in a certain order (the large text first, then the small text) with the appropriate headings for each paragraph still intact. Whether that works/is a good idea or not is hard to say.
Agreed.
Super-Agreed.
Pretty design. Loved it!
Few pointers ..
On View work preview ... Third image and it typo is bit intrusive and not so pleasing with the other designs. So i would recommend you to have a clutter free / non typo screenshot which will make the overall look so amazing.
Really like the tagline .. Designer by day, developer by night.!
The Video about graphic design representation is very elegant.
IN contact me page .. the footer alignment is not so great.. center alignment would be nice.
I really love this design, very clean and creative approach. My only mention would be possibly placing the background logo on Graphic Design above the gradient rather than below.
