I'm Not
Same. It's not easy lugging around a 0.71 inch thick and 3.48 pound MacBook Pro. But it pays off when I can go places and get real work done beyond e-mail and angry birds.
I’m pretty much done with iPads. :/
MacBook Pros are ace.
Same as me. I bought my first iPad last year and the only one who's using it is my mum now.
Right?! I have bought and sold a few iPads since they first came out (marketing works too well on me), but I am done now. I never do anything that productive with them, and I had reading on yet-another screen.
I don't get it, are we really so weak that we can't shlepp around laptops that are between 1kg - 3kg?
I take a laptop over any iPad, I can't be productive on an iPad, need a proper keyboard and OS.
This comment made me laugh out loud, thank you :)
Less time blogging. More time in the gym.
Right!
Plus retina Macbooks became really lightweight. Happened to me that I had to check my backpack to see if I didn't forget it.
if(MacBook Pro !== theBestDevice) { return killmenow; }
Still no solid design tools though
This is actually the same game plan I've decided on a recently. We'll see how it goes once I upgrade my devices.
How does one design on an iPad?
I find most of my work can be done on a tablet. Research, discussions, note taking, wire framing, presentations. The majority of a designer’s core disciplines are well served by tablets. I still reach for my Mac when it comes to putting deliverable code or renders together, but that’s largely because I grew up in the industry that way.
I used to lug around an Alienware m15x. I'm far from done with my Macbook Pro.
The major concern when using the iPad to perform any kind of work, is the limitation of iOS compared to OSX. You can't really expect to do any work like web development or even graphic-design from iOS, as the author mentions.
However, nowadays considering portability, it is way preferable to simply take the new 12' MacBook with you rather than iPads where it is still possible to perform the same kind of work, under reduced performance, but with the same freedom as from a MacBook Pro.—This should cover concerns against weight, durability, etc.
Blasphemy.
:P
