Ask DN: Some advice on work environment

over 7 years ago from , Product Designer and UX @Cymbeo

I am working at an agency turned SaaS company as a UX team of one. I am in charge of the product, the design, the user experience and the front end development.

As of a few months ago things have gotten really weird here. The CEO hired his brother with no experience to run operations. The CEO is also the head developer, we still have a lot of clients we do agency work for, but lately the CEO and his brother have been focused so much on schedules that as of today I am required to put together an hourly schedule for the week of work that I will be completing and when. Like so:

-Monday from 8-10 design of feature 1 will be done -Monday 10-12 usability testing -etc. for everyday for the whole week and he wants two weeks at a time.

I understand that tracking of projects etc. is important, we use Jira and user stories and an agile dev process, but this is ridiculous. I have never worked anywhere where this type of tracking was a thing.

Any advice?

Express your concerns to the rest of your team and propose solutions for a better, more useful workflow. Dependant on the reception of this conversation: leave or stay. Probably leave.

Leave. Time tracking aside, this alone is enough to justify it.
