Based on absolutely zero evidence, I firmly believe a majority of DN users are running OSX.
So let's see your best dock pic. I'm curious how big other users docks are.

I think a majority of the icons are easily distinguishable, but if you have any questions just ask.
I'm also always running TotalTerminal for quick terminal access.

I keep it very clean and let my wallpaper shine. ⌘ + Space is my friend.

Same here. I usually keep apps that I don't even use on the dock because they might have beautiful iconography and I find it inspirational.
My dock isn't quite that clean but I totally agree with using spotlight for everything, I barely launch anything using any other method.

I have a lot going on here. Occasionally I realize it's bloated and I trim the fat, but it's been a while.
Edit: I think most of these are well-known but I'll list them anyway. Finder, Calendar, Mail, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Adium, Photoshop, ImageOptim, RazorSQL, MySQLWorkbench, Transmit, Atom, Coda, TextWrangler, xScope, Tower, Yeti Launch, etc. etc.
Adium. Now that's an icon I haven't seen for a long time.
Friday is our company's deadline for switching to Slack. I've been using both for several months because of all the stragglers.
I'm yet to find an alternative to Adium.

Windows Taskbar is soooo much more useful. Guess what happens when I click the icon of an active window in the dock on my MacBook Pro? Absolutely nothing... On Windows? It minimizes and maximizes the application.
And I love that my eyes only have to go to one location to look at my computer's status, because I can see wireless info, application info, notification info, etc all on the bottom. It's also visually obvious what the active application(s) is on Windows. OS X has some of the worst UX around compared to Windows, and mixture design patterns that make no sense. (granted Windows 8 had a horrible mixture of patterns as well, but 10 has revised much of that) If OS X didn't have a UNIX architecture I doubt it would be as popular as it is now in the developer community.
Personally disagree, especially when you take into account OSX's significantly better multiple desktop support (I never need to minimize stuff) and gestures.
Windows 10 brought native virtual desktop support.
Windows 10 is great, but I'm switching to OSX because of software/UNIX stuff. Bittersweet, really.
Ya'll still use the dock? I just use Alfred for opening apps. I have the doc completely hidden.
I just use Spotlight to open any application, typically even the ones in dock.
I don't really know why I still use the dock, it's just kind of always been there.
I mostly use Alfred.

System Preferences -> Dock -> :check this box: 
Oh I see, I thought you meant you disabled the dock somehow.
You can't actually disable the dock but you can increase the delay so it never shows up in two simple commands lines:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 1 killall Dock
In the first line, "1" means a one second delay. You can set it way higher. Then if you need it, you can just toggle it with cmd+alt+D.
How do you handle app badges in mail/slack/messages/etc? It'd be great if there was a way to move that into the menu bar.
I guess that if you're a fan of keyboard shortcuts you could use a hotkey to quickly open/close Notification Center to check.
You can only hide when not scrolling near it, but the shortcut is cmd + alt + d
Same here with Alfred.
Life Pro Tip: Use Alfred to launch apps and cDock to only show apps that are currently open. That way you can always tell at a glance which of your apps are active and running.
Bonus tip: My Dock is on the left, since vertical screen real estate is more scarce than horizontal (ie. we have more pixels horizontally than vertically).

Cmd + Tabbing would switch your focus to a different app (which may not be what you want). Anyway having things at a glance is always better than having to touch the keyboard.

Haha definitely different strokes! For me, I'm always already touching the keyboard, and have the dock hidden. By using a Cmd + Tab to switch apps while I work, I'm always aware of what I'm running. I value screen real estate and lightning fast keyboard shortcuts ;)

Looking at this thread gives me the feeling that I'm using my dock wrong or something. I never removed the stuff I don't use, just added what I do use on the end.
Also, I refuse to use an OS X version newer than Mavericks. I intend to hold out until I'm forced to buy a new Mac with El Capitan on it. Mavericks work fine for my needs. This is embarrassing.

Not all hardware runs well on newer versions of OS X. I personally follow the Apple Care rule: only three years worth of updates unless I upgrade internal hardware i.e. HDD, RAM, etc. or upgrade to a new Mac. Same goes for iOS and iPhone / iPad. Just my personal opinion.
I explained why: Mavericks works fine for every application I use in work and personally. I guess if you want me to elaborate I'd also add that I don't like the UI in Yosemite. In a year I'll be needing to buy a new MBP, so I fully recognize that upgrading is an inevitability but I see no reason to not hold out for as long as I can.
Only Sketch Chrome and Spotify. Spotlight Search is plenty for the rest.

Where did you get the round slack icon? And is it a similar change as with Sublime Text?

I'm pretty particular with symmetry and having related items grouped together.
The Trello Epichrome app also almost feels native.
Mainly web dev and design.
I use dock spacers to create little buckets of apps. They're kind of sorted by usage – far left are every day admin apps: email, calendar, chat, music, etc. Then there are browsers (for testing), then designing (Balsamiq, PS, AI), then dev (Sublime, Github, Koala, VMWare, Terminal, Activity Monitor, and AMPPS). The dock dividers work great for me.
Last four are usually closed when not working.
I'm a heavy Alfred user and have a bunch of stuff in my menubar hidden with Bartender. I've got a lot of keyboard shortcuts set up to launch various macros & apps.
I use Keyboard Maestro for macros, so by pressing 'right shift + command + /' I get '¯\_(ツ)_/¯'.
I really like your sublime icon, Wojtek. Do you remember where you found it?

How do you like Polymail?
It's pretty good so far. Little, buggy, but definitely usable. It offers many of the features I missed from dropbox's mail app. I'd recommend it for sure.

Also, the assumptions that everyone here uses OSX is pretty far-fetched... I know there is a sizable Windows user base on here, and I myself use both operating systems interchangeably depending on my location or client (redesigning Windows desktop software = design on Windows).

The two folders on the right hand side are my downloads and documents folders for quick access... I use the downloads one all the time.
The other mail app is Boxy, which I use on my work machine for my personal email only (mail.app for work email).

Yep! It's Boxy, with a custom icon I found on Dribbble.. Tried Boxy out for a couple weeks and love a lot of its features, but ultimately end up coming back to Mail.

Product guy, so there's a healthy blend of design/dev/comms apps. Some used more than others, just depends which hat I'm wearing that day. Dock spacers for logical grouping. Regardless, I still launch everything via Alfred.

I find Spotlight (previously Alfred) and keyboard shortcuts like Command+Tab better for me.
Hey Jacob, you should take a look at my previous comment! I actually mentioned how you can almost really disable the Dock.
Minimum dock. Vertical-right. That's the way I go.
I'm always interested to see which items are not running, but kept in the Dock. I have nothing in mine by default, only open stuff, and use Alfred as the launcher. The Dock for me has become a 'what's running now' only kind of place.
How are you grouping them like that?
 Are you on El Capitan; if so, how did you get it to work? I had to drop TotalTerminal since updating since it just quit working and they no longer support it. iTerm isn't quite what I want but it works.

I can't remember exactly what I had to do, but I believe I had to disable System Integrity Protection.

Finder + Chrome are always there, everything else is launched with Alfred. Too lazy to screenshot.
