It's been this way for a while and they've always had a solid digital presence. Any reason in particular you are sharing?
Easy there. Just sharing some inspiration. Whether it's new or not, it's never been shared on here, and I'm guessing many haven't seen it before. Nothing wrong with that, good sir.
I'm chill, but just posting a link to something with no rhyme or reason comes off as a karma-grab. What has made this place great is discussion/thoughts/etc on the topics posted. Simply pasting a link without telling us what about the design intrigues you or what inspired you to do so kind of comes off spammy.
As for Backcountry, I feel they are kind of the pioneers of producing a more visually engaging web experience versus pretty much anyone else out there. They also have a very active and engaging staff. What I like about their site is that because their in-house social/community team is so active, reviews on the site are much more engaging and informative. They encourage people to post pictures and write about the gear. I also appreciate how they have really taken the time to focus on unique photography and displaying it in a very editorial-like fashion on the homepage. You can see how REI and some others are trying to play catch-up a little now.
My only "eh" with them is the mobile experience... the menu stacking gets a bit wonky as you get down a few sub-categories.
