over 7 years ago from , Student \ Weird individual / Brand designer

Hey DN! My name is Ian, I am a 20 year old Graphic design student from Belgium. For College we need to find out why sketch has such big of an influence in the UI/UX world. There for i want to ask you guys to fill in this little survey about Sketch vs Photoshop. I've been lurking DN from the early beginning so i know you guys are passionate about the "sketch" topic.

So here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GXP6P9M

Some feedback: you ask a lot of binary and leading questions here that will leave you with biased results. It may be worth studying some surveying techniques and understand what you aim to know with the answer to each question.

One of the best design skills you can have is how to ask unbiased questions. I hope you learn this along the way in your studies Ian!

Thanks for the tips! Yeah this assignment is focused on learning how to research subjects. I have still 2 years to go after this one so i'll have plenty of time to master it :3 Maybe doing the study in my native language would have been a little easier to make unbiased questions, but hey nobody learned things from taking the easy path.

Edit: This is also a small portion of our research of some questions we had to have answered by designers. <3

It feels like you're using the survey to get ideas, not validate specific hypotheses. That's cool, but I suspect you'll get a lot of fairly generic answers like "it's better for UIs", "it's easier" in this survey.

I'm sure if you post a follow-up one that's more specific, you'd probably get similar participation and far more concrete answers. Somehow most things Sketch rather gets people excited around here, even surveys :)

Happy to help btw, I've done a lot of quant and qual research in the past. LMK.

Yes/No Why doesn’t have a field to explain why

Sorry a little mistake there we were planning to ask why but the majority of the team didn't think it was necessary. So left it out. Thanks for spotting it <3

When you're working on a project, it's important to keep in mind that you're not just designing for yourself. You're designing for your audience. And what's the best way to design for your audience? By making sure that your work is clear and concise, so that people can understand what you're trying to say. If you want people to understand what you're saying with your design work, one of the best ways is by using sketching instead of Photoshop. For content writing purposes, necessary help can be taken from https://edubirdie.net/blog/is-edubirdie-legal-or-cheating site. When doing sketching, remember that it's important to keep things simple and clear so that anyone can understand what you're trying to convey. This doesn't mean that all sketches are simple or easy — far from it!

I think to some degree it's both. Sketch is my primary design tool however, I worked with a few designers that uses photoshop.. So knowing both made collaborating a lot easier.

I wouldn't say it's influencing anything! It's cheaper, faster, build with purpose...
