Mastering Sketch 3 (designcode.io)

I'm still trying to master having it not crash after hitting Command + S.
Do you know what makes it crash?
Since Sketch 3.4.2, it hasn't crashed on me once, and I work with a lot of Artboards/Vectors. One trick that I found though is that if you encounter something that makes the app crash, try to use another technique that achieves the same result. Also, make sure to report it to the team. They're reasonably responsive.
Simply trying to save the file. It randomly crashes. It's perfectly random, as far as I can determine. Click an artboard, press command + s - and crash. But also using gradients - every time. It crashes for me, on average, a dozen times per hour.
What OS are you using? We have a team of 12 spanning from Mavericks-El Capitan and we rarely have crashes.
I'm on El Capitan, Version 10.11.1. It's weird. Perhaps it's something with my version. To test, I tried to save multiple times in a row - it saved three times, then crashed on the fourth attempt. Gradients have never worked for me. Maybe it's my computer causing the issue - if Sketch is hoarding too much memory, it causes a crash. Not sure.
You forgot symbols!!!
But a really good job explaining every little thing on Sketch. Talking about symbols... do you know that you could organize them by "categories" and "sub-categories"¿?
For example, if you have an icon set and you want to separate sports icons from food icons you could use this (see the syntax below) when naming your symbol:
Icons/Sports/Football or Icons/Food/Spaghetti
And then if you go to insert/symbols you'll see that they were categorized. Really cool thing to know :D
I wrote about Symbols in the previous page, and was looking to add more in this section, like about Nested Symbols and some workflow tricks. I'm always amazed by how people use the Symbols/Shared Styles combo. Cool idea!
Fantastic work Meng. Your efforts continue to help the whole community.
Holy shit snacks! You must have put a lot of work into that article. Nice job.
Appreciate the reaction! Yes, this was the result of many months doing those UI kits, collecting techniques and just Sketch-ing daily. I'm surprised at how many things I didn't know before, especially when it comes to vectors and transforms.
hé thanks, i've been using sketch for a while and never really looked in all the "cool" stuff sketch have to offer.
I don't blame you. Sketch is a treasure trove of hidden features and workflow techniques. I still learn new tricks every day. :)
local sharing tip link is correct? It gives link for space occupying bug, which was fixed in new version of sketch few months back.
Thanks for this, I just corrected the mistake!
Having the GIFs showing the multi-step stuff is great, much more efficient than either a series of pictures or whole video.
