Does anybody have any good articles on how local design (at a country, region or hyperlocal level) is being killed off because of globalised design? Just wondering if there's anything out there that I'm missing...

It all comes down to the impact of globalisation on design, and the pros and cons of such a thing. Does it homogenise design? Is it a status/social climbing thing that makes poorer regions (economically, culturally or whatever) ape stronger regions' design? Is it something that has gone on forever and we shouldn't worry about it? Curious to see what people think, and whether they've read anything that is along these lines....
