Would you say that this is how Sunrise....sunsets?

    (I'll let myself out.)

Yet another innovative service shut down after acquisition. This sucks.

Seriously, one of the few daily-use apps I consistently enjoyed.

I've actually been using the new Outlook for awhile already and the update just makes it better. Doesn't suck. They got a good exit, I assume steady jobs and have and are still shipping a great product that does just about everything Sunrise did just as well, I'd say even better in some cases due to the great e-mail integration.

    And another one...

I knew that was coming when they announced the Microsoft acquisition, but I still had a glimpse of hope this one wouldn't end up dead like all the others.

It's slowly becoming harder and harder to put my trust into new web services as I've been caught like that too many times.

This is textbook Zawinski's Law, which states:

Every program attempts to expand until it can read mail. Those programs which cannot so expand are replaced by ones which can.

Who wants their calendar in their email app? That sounds like something a suit in his 50s wants, not what the future of scheduling should be.

I don't schedule meetings over email, it's slow and prone to miscommunication.

    Goodbye Sunrise!

:( Any suggestions on good alternatives? I originally switched from native mac calendar to sunrise.

It's Sparrow all over again... Good luck to them though :)

I still use sparrow because even with the unfixed bugs it's still 99% better than any other mail app I've got on my laptop :\

I imagine sunrise will be the same as I'd prefer to not download outlook.

I love Sunrise and this is very disappointing to hear, but I have to say:

I use Outlook for iPhone daily and it's a FANTASTIC email app. Sure it'll be a little weird actually using the calendar function, but there's an enormous amount of potential when they're working starting an app that's already quite good.

    There's hope.

Could anyone tell me the advantages of Sunrise? I tried it but it's too similiar to Google Calendar.

Combines calendars from multiple services, Exchange, 365, Google, even Facebook. Was also very clean and intuitive.

It's all very well them coming out and saying that Outlook for mobile will absorb all of Sunrise's best functionality, but what about desktop users? Microsoft's desktop and web offerings for email and calendars are horrific.

Looks like Fantastical is the best, but imperfect alternative for now. I personally have high hopes for Spark from Readdle on iPhone (have been using it for a while and am a beta tester) - and they're working on Mac and iPad apps too.

It's biggest advantage was it's integration with tons of other platforms (facebook, trello, dropbox, basecamp, github, etc...).

Super easy to use—fun even—with some nice integrations as Louie noted. Just felt painless when it comes to scheduling. Desktop and mobile apps are a pleasure to use. Fun little icons depending on the event.

I get that people generally are disappointed when a startup they invested their support in gets acquired and moves away from the product but in this case, I don't get it. Outlook on Mobile is actually an amazing experience. I moved from Sunrise and Mailbox to Outlook awhile back and I am happier for it. I remember thinking earlier today when the app updated : "Wow, they just keep making this app better and better" I actually didn't realize it was the same team (because I loved Sunrise back in the day too) but it makes sense to hear it now and I am glad that it is them and not just "Hey a Microsoft team didn't screw this one up". When small teams create start-ups, this is often the kind of end they are aiming for. I honestly feel like people need to stop being so defeated before trying the new Outlook app.

Its the internet, change happens fast and I think as customers this actually worked out pretty well for us this time around.

As someone who uses Fantastical (previously Sunrise) and Outlook (previously Mailbox), I'm actually pleased about this. Moved off the previous apps in time. Outlook for iOS is actually a brilliant app.

Pretty ironic, that they letting all their current loyal users down and the only feedback they give is that they want to work for a bigger userbase which is an app which the most current users will never use....

Did anyone use Meet? I'm so sad about this. I realize there's Doodle. Does the Outlook app have something similar for polling a time/date?
