Expanding from UI into branding - What tool should I use?

almost 8 years ago from , UI Designer.

So I've always been a UI/UX designer, and this will likely remain the majority of the work I do. However, I've gotten really into logo and branding design and I really want to learn these skills as well.

My question: I currently use Sketch, because I focus on UI. If I need an icon or logo, I make it in Sketch. But if I'm going to be exploring other types of design, should I start working in Adobe's world of Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign? These tools still seem to be far-and-away the best for this sort of design. Thanks.

I started out with Illustrator. It's pretty much a universal application whether you're designing for screen or print. I'd vote for it.

I'd say Ai is going to be your best friend. I still find the control it gives you with paths and basic things like rotating and creating new shapes is still superior to Sketch. I'm preferential as it's the first tool I ever used but I do all my icon/logo design in Ai and then copy finished work into Sketch for use on all collateral.

    Good luck!
