The trash can. After a while, I stopped fighting and just gave up organizing anything. There's always new sites, icons, fonts, etc. coming out, so rather than try and fight it I decided to embrace the chaos and trust Google to help me find things again.

Everytime I hit cmd+shift+4 (or cmd+shift+3) Dropbox simply puts it in that folder.

Out of interest, what are people looking for in a screenshot / reference app? What are the three most important factors? Being able to categorize them and search for them later? Having a nice presentation? An easy workflow of automatically storing them somewhere? I make a file productivity app Blik, and have been considering adding screenshot organization to it.

I gave up on trusting, and relying on, Ember, Pixa, Inboard, Stache, and monthly new online ones. I've started using a browser extension to take full-page screenshots and then store them in sorted folders, and to use tags sometimes. It's safe and I really don't find myself missing the features in any of those apps.

Recently decided to use Finder. I have a folder called "Web Design" and add tags for things like "landing pages" or "sign up."

For videos, I capture with CloudApp and then just save the link to finder (drag from the URL as a .webloc file). You can also tag these files.

I use Inboard, it's mostly fine but I wish development on it was a little more active. Hitting a few quirks and there are a couple of features I'd like to see added/tweaked

I know the guys at Ember are working on 2.0 which is supposed to be awesome. But I'm still using Ember. I switched from Pixa to Ember and while it isn't without issues, it seems to be the best.

Haven't tried Inboard much though.

I'd really recommend Niice.co. With the pro subscription you can backup to Dropbox, and the Chrome / Safari extension is one of the best extensions I've ever used.

I use stashboard.com and love it.

I also use Annotate.app over Skitch for annotation, just because it's insanely more responsive. Skitch just feels really laggy and as an Evernote product, it's syncing is tragically slow outside USA (even with ~100 gbps upload speeds)

What issues with Ember?

I've been using Droplr over a year now and it's pretty useful to see all of your screenshots nicely organized. Definitely recommend it.

I literally had this discussion today. I'm currently trying out Pixa and it's worked a treat so far :)

Gyazo is usually enough for me. I find that I rarely need to take screenshots of stuff for myself, it's usually to share with a colleague or friend. For that reason, a 1-click tool (Puush is also good) is all I need.

Ember has always intrigued me, but always seemed way too "beta" for the $50 cost they wanted. My biggest concern with them is that they seem a little sloppy in so many areas that doesn't make me feel that they take the app seriously. For example, the site sells the app for $25, the app store sells it for $32.99 if you search for it, but then shows it as $50 when you go to the product page.

Also concerned how on their site they have seemed to downplay it completely in their blog and it shows it's been last updated nearly a year ago.

I tried a lot of differents options and ended up chosing Pixa. The UI needs some love but they're apparently working on a new update. It handles a huge library with ease and has some nice features I couldn't find anywhere else like the Chrome extension that shows you all the images in a page so you can select which ones you want to import instead of doing it one by one. I really wish I could access my library on mobile though.

Still loving Ember but curious to know what else is available.

I'm pretty happy with Pixa. I put my library folder in my dropbox so I can upload stuff from other devices.

Call it old school but I use Onyx to select what format and directory for my Screenshots to save to, Skitch for annotations, host them all on Dropbox and access them all from my dock via a custom stack folder.

The only downside to inboard is no cloud syncing. So if you work on multiple laptops its a pain. But I believe cloud sync is bent worked on. Great app otherwise
