Shared graphic asset library

Does anyone have experience with seting up a shared graphic asset /component library for multiple users within a company? I'm looking for tips on software, formats, styleguides, methodology, anything you've learned from experience . Thanks!

we recently started to using creative cloud libraries between our designers, and so far its been great especially when introducing a new designer to a project.

Good resources, thanks! CC libraries may come close to filling our needs, the problem is not all of the team is using CC :S
