Just stumbled upon this little detail. When you hover over the numbers, the corresponding size is highlighted.
The table below is rather simple, but I can see it being used when more data is present.

The orange is a little intense for me, but I appreciate that someone tried to make the table easier to read.
the orange is totally on brand. 
The colors are meh, but overall the idea is a nice step forward in legibility for users searching high content tables.

...but what will it do on touch devices, I wonder?
Maybe clicking a cell highlights the cross intersection? That could work.
Now that I think about it.. what happens in this desktop version if you click on a cell? Would it remain highlighted? Could be a nice way to make that consistent.
I believe this pattern was available on the jquery site for the forms bit. really useful to highlight the selected content.
