Let's just remember that this is where the iPod started out: http://cdn.makezine.com/uploads/2009/02/giantipodprototype.jpg
We're iterating hourly, and taking everyone's feedback into consideration. Keep calm and FUCK I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY THAT.
This redesign was a solid foundation. Looking forward to seeing more iterations.
Stay strong, redesigning a site for designers is like disturbing a wasps nest.
+1 for AD
Congrats on the launch!
The left side of the article column looks a little heavy with the inclusion of the point boxes, and them being right next to the circular category icons.
Have you considered putting them off to the right side? Ex: http://i.imgur.com/V0gBP9P.png
Older also had some really nice qualities. I think the headlines feel even more comfortable and readable than even 2.0
the older site design icon is pretty great
This is the Bee's Knees!
1.0 was great, but I felt like Allan would just do things to be weird. This redesign is going in a solid direction. It just functions better.
Check out my user id. I don't have much karma, but I've lurked around here since literally day one.
Would love to have the main-content be centered again.
I'm sure they'll iterate on this one, but the old design had much more clarity. Look how easily you can scan the headlines here.
Best of luck to you all! I'm happy to be along for the ride.
the menu hover bugs me because of that one pixel it's beneath the bar
The DN team are smashing it. It's amazing to see hourly changes, to see feedback being listened to.
Also, DN 1.0 was rad. Loved the headlines, the simplicity of it all.
If there is a lesson to learn from where the iPod started out to where it was at it's best (4th gen), it was "keep it simple".
DN will hopefully bear that in mind -- we don't need a ton of new features, we just need the features we have to be perfected.
