Sadly, the castle theory is definitely not true. The symbol is at least as old as the viking age.
random/neat. Now wondering about why Susan Kare thought the symbol for landmark translated to 'command'.....could be just random/thought it looked good or whatever I guess
As with many topics on the early Mac history, Folklore.org has the answer.
Short article relaying the story behind this instantly recognizable symbol (at least, to any mac user). I find this very interesting, as our community is constantly searching for new visual means of conveying more and more abstract concepts. Who would have thought - a castle in Borgolm!
