I'm staying in SF for 3 months. Any good recommendations, people to meet?

over 8 years ago from , Lead Designer

I'll be staying in San Francisco until the end of June, and I was wondering if any of you SF folk had some good recommendations for things to see and do, doesn't necessarily have to be design-related. Maybe people that want to meet up, share stories, talk design?

So far I've been to the Golden Gate, walked the Embarcadero and I've biked to Sausalito.

there was a post like this a few days ago: https://news.layervault.com/stories/47970-visiting-san-francisco-in-may

That captures most of what I would say--but I will double down on saying go to the Exploratorium for an evening visit. Science + beer = bliss.

If I was around I'd meet up--but alas! Out of town for a few months. Also, if you are a carnivore go to Mission Chinese for some pre-going-out bites. It's a little too cool for it's own good (hipster waiters, classic rap on the soundsystem, and intentionally uninventive decor), but the food is great, greasy, and inventive.

Delores Park is San Francisco's front porch--go there to see the city's quirky, beating heart on any sunny afternoon, and bring beer.

Since you have a bit more time in town, try to make it out of SF a little bit:

Head down to the central coast--it's all fog, dramatic cliffs, and winding roads.

First Fridays is a great jumping off point to discover the East Bay; it's Oakland's monthly art and booze fest and a pretty fun evening. You can get their on the BART. There should be one next Friday, May 1.

Thanks Brendan! Must've missed that post a few days back, but thanks for linking it. Will definitely try and check out your recommendations.

Check out the Legion of Honor for an array of beautiful art, Mexican food in the Mission (La Taqueria is my pick), and take a trip across the bay to hike Muir Woods if you can. Enjoy! SF is awesome.

My suggestion is to spend 2 of those months in Seattle.

Open invitation if you want to go to the Exploratorium (for free). I have a membership and can bring guests.

Happy to meet up with designers and like-minded good folk: live in Oakland, work in SF.

hello@aayushis.in or @aayush are the best ways to reach out.
