Can delivery.layervault.com be resurrected?

over 8 years ago from , Creative Technology Lead at TMW

Since Layervault has now shut down, it would be great to still use delivery.layervault.com, does any of the Layervault team know if this brilliant, simple service could be used now that you guys aren't around?

Cheers

    What exactly was this service?

Would there be demand if this was other than free? If there is sufficient demand, this might be possible.

I have no idea. I have only ever used it because it was extremely useful to me. Free was just an added benefit. How popular, as a standalone service, was it?

Zander, it was very popular as a standalone service; it could be something that is resurrected or packaged as part of something else.

I never used Delivery, so unsure if this would be possible. Could any advertising be incorporated into the service?

If it's a presentation service, maybe have a logo in the bottom corner with something along the lines of 'provided by Layervault, sponsored by -company logo-'?

Although I suppose it would go against this: Delivery is all about the presentation of your work, and just your work. That means no LayerVault branding and no extra chrome. It’s clutter-free, dead simple, and you won’t need to be a LayerVault user to build a Delivery.

Still, we don't live in a perfect world...

To reflect what Dan said, obviously a service like Delivery came with hosting costs. I'm not speaking for Kelly, but there are some ways it could be revived. A cheap subscription service could make it worthwhile. Perhaps make it bring-your-own-storage style to cut even more costs.

Let us know if you’d be interested in getting it to run on Surge. We are all about static hosting and have a comprehensive free tier, and were very, very big fans of LayerVault.

Sad to see it go, but if we can help you re-use this portion in any way, might be a conversation worth having! Shoot me a message, kenneth@surge.sh or @surge_sh

I would love the idea of using one's own hosting for this. Perhaps a model similar to Ghost where there's hosted and self-hosted variants..

    Try InVision. It's amazing.

Now, if Invision would just hurry up and buy Layervault...
