Ask DN: Which software is popular these days for building a simple website?

8 years ago from

I’m an iOS designer/developer, and I’m looking to re-do my website, in response to the new apps I have coming out.

You can check out my existing site at ProjectDent.com, which I made 2 years ago. My new site will be much the same - a page showcasing each app, a homepage that points out what's new, and a link to a blog. So it's nothing overblown and fancy; I don't want to delve too deep into this.

In the past my process has been to design something in Photoshop/Sketch then code it using HTML and CSS.

I've noticed a number of new web development apps come out over time, but not being a web developer, I’ve been out of the loop in regards to what people are using, and what they’d recommend I use. If there’s an approach easier than the one I’m taking - ideally one that eliminates code but allows me to have control over the design - then I’d love to know about it.

If you're looking for actual non-web apps and you're on a Mac, there's Cactus and Blocs.

I've never used Grid but it seems pretty legit. I'm not sure how much control you have over design in Grid though.

Personally I design & dev WordPress themes so that's my go-to. Let me know if Grid works out.
