I've used copypastecharacter.com of ages to paste arrows and geometric symbols into PDS layer names. Bringing them to life a little. :P
But today I discovered you can copy and paste emojis into PDS layer names as well... I just had to share this with DN.
What is WRONG with you people.
YOU CAN USE A POOP EMOJI IN YOUR LAYERS.
This is nothing but fantastic. Enjoy. Bathe in its wonderfulness. Don't let logic ruin a good thing. Just open up a shared PSD, add a poop emoji, save and wait. Many days are to be made.

Sketch is ahead of the game, not only can you use emoji in layers but you can use them in text!

After working on PSD.rb and PSD.js for years and battling with character encoding (among many other things), this makes me wince.

This is awesome.
Too bad that pressing ⌘ + Ctrl + Space (Mac only, emoji popup) doesn't work on PSD layer name editing. That would eliminate the extra step of copy-pasting emoji.

Before I was clicking the emoji icon in the messages app and copying from there, what a noob!

I've been using Emoji for Trello for a while now. Only works well in Safari and acceptably well in Firefox.
After reading the designer news feed for month now, i just registered to thank you for sharing the idea. Love it! cheers

Agreed with other comments. Seems cool, but also seems like it could get really screwy fast. Though I do like the Poop icon!
This is what I've started to do, thinking of groups like you would in front-end dev:

Colors, etc are also good.
Same here. I put everything in groups of how they would be built front-end and colour-code them to help scanning layers easier.
A combination of colours and icons could be cool though.
Seems more like a gimmick than a productivity feature. I think colors are way better for productivity within PS
