Developer moving to London

over 8 years ago from , Developer

Hi everyone,

I'm a developer moving to London from New Zealand looking for a bit of help getting settled.

If you've got any information that may help with the transition please let me know - it'd be much appreciated!

I'm thinking of things like tech recruiters, businesses looking for a developers and any other general information that would help.

Thanks!

Meetups are good if you're looking to meet some like-minded people. If you're into design I'd suggest checking out the Design + Banter meetup.

First thing you need to do apart from getting a job is to register for a national insurance number. Call Job Centre plus and get an appointment. Do this as quick as possible cause sometimes it lasts even 2 months.

    Hey mate,

When are you moving to London? I'm an Aussie currently in London, and our company is currently looking for developers.

I found work through http://ifyoucouldjobs.com/ when I first arrived, but since got a full time position.

I'm arriving in 1 month. Great what does your company do? Was it a good transition from Aussie to the UK? Cheers for the link.

It's a jobs board. ala seek.co.nz indeed monster etc.

Doing a lot more development on this at the moment and a big focus on tech hiring at the moment.

Needs a lot of love, but check it out reed.co.uk

Let me know your thoughts, and I can pass on CV's to dev people.

Transition was fine. Big thing I noticed was that people aren't as friendly, but as soon as you meet a few people, it gets easier. Everything is expensive, but it's worth it for the travel.
