Wow, this has to be my favorite portfolio site that I've seen in a while. The transitions are super smooth, I love the hand illustration (especially the gem at the end), and the split column layout is pretty fun!
Second the 'favorite portfolio in a while' sentiment. Excellent.
Third!
This is really beautiful. My only (tiny) critique/gripe is its similarity to OK Real—down to the typeface. But still, that’s probably coincidental.
That's the first thing I noticed as well with the underlined ITC Clearface on a solid color taking up half the page. Definitely not a rip though - more like a subtle nod. Lots of nice and original stuff on this site.
I'm a huge fan of this typeface but the similarity was indeed too close. I updated the site with some more of the illustrative lettering.
Other things like the half-split structure have an conceptual background.
I'm incredibly thankful for all your feedback!
seriously loved the high 5 at the end, felt reward for browsing through all that awesome content
It's really nice. The standard of presentation is fantastic too.
The illustrations don't quite fit with the clean geometric shapes. Seems a bit mismatched. I'd be inclined to go with one or the other.
I'm looking for things to pick out here though. My first impression was 'wow'
Yeah, I get what you mean. After looking through it a couple of times I decided I like it even more for the mis-matched feeling this creates, maybe less for it's impact and more because I have looked though countless portfolio sites that are over-the-top clean and "professional"-looking, and this was a nice little way to say that you can be clean and professional and throw some originality and hand-drawn elements into the mix.
Thank you Matt - these where exactly my thoughts. I had a very clean version at the beginning but there was some kind of "twist" missing. I feel very comfortable with the illustrations at the moment - a good combination of "business & party".
The intro is bugged in Safari.
OMG – You found the easter egg! Thank you for the feedback ;)
Not a serious critique, but fun nonetheless:
At normal aspect ratios, the image for myControl is cropped such that you can’t see much, and it looks like the phone is being held by a woman with a single hairy man-hand.
hahaha - I've been laughing about this for quite a while but sometimes you got do deal with what you get ;)
WOW! What software or drawing tool was used to create those sweet sketched wireframes?
Would love to know this too!
The wireframes were digitised in Photoshop with a Wacom tablet – originally I used pen and paper.
The hands remind me a lot of Karlie McCulloch's work. Really nice kinetic type , transitions, and colours; though I'm not so keen on the hover effect on the project images.
What a great portfolio.
Fundamentally great, flashy in the right ways.
Absolutely love it.
Amazing work Melanie! Sent you an email because we loved it soo much ;). Keep on rocking.
Beautiful, great work! The hand at the end makes it. High five
Really great portfolio example which doesn't over do it. Great job Melanie.
Its a really great site, but why do you need a loader at the begining? It took forever until I could use the site, and in the end I felt like it was your site and not my Interenet. Which is not the best feeling.
Greatest website portfolio in a long time indeed!
That hand reminds me of Anton's site
Whoa, impressive. -_-
Such a lovely site! I'm in love with the script animations.
