Site Design: Artsy 2014 (2014.artsy.net)

This site had the potential to be really nice, but I just can't get past the awful scroll highjacking experience.
There is no scroll hijacking, it's parallax if anything. And just hold the down key and it's nice and smooth. If you're reading the content as well, it's not that far of a scroll between each.
I don't experience the scroll jacking either.
I wonder if people know what it means, or if it's just trendy to hate on.
I feel like scrolljacking is an appropriate term here because the rate at which the user can scroll through the text on that page has been seriously manipulated by the designer.
I don't think it's trendy to question wether or not it's appropriate to take control of another person's device, it's a perfectly valid concern.
Personally I think that given the intention of this site, a skimming over of highlights from an arts institution's annual report, it's fine to present it in a somewhat obscure but interesting manner.
But I would call it scrolljacking too.
Totally agree with Corin here, I had to scroll close to 50 times to get through this.
Any page where the speed of scrolling is manipulated by the designer is scroll-jacking.
Nothing scrolljacked here. My guess (based on the inline height set on the body tag) is that they're using Skrollr: https://github.com/Prinzhorn/skrollr
It's a library that's used primarily for transitioning values on scroll. Notice the small movement of the text, the fading in/out of the "slides" that make up the site, etc.
There's a couple z-index problems (try highlighting text), but otherwise really solid photography, and subtle use of scroll effects!
Beautiful art images and idea but honestly the need to scroll so much really makes it unusable.
I think it's a nice site and executed very well. It was a little too much scrolling (not scroll jacking) for my trackpad, but the interaction and control of the content was cool.
I see comments about the "scroll highjacking" here but I don't see any scroll highjacking at all?
In fact, in this case, I wish they HAD used scroll highjacking just so I wasn't stuck scrolling 10,000 times.
Upvoting, mostly because my products get two large cameos. Site is open source btw.
General design reminds me of https://www.internet.org/
It's basically a slideshow on iPhone, pretty well executed though.
