The idea of using Facebook for internal business discussions is really unattractive to me, both privacy-wise and aesthetically.
I'd rather have a clear separation between work and personal networks.
I don't use Facebook. But from what I understand this should separate the work and personal aspect in the Facebook world.
I'm also a bit underwhelmed that they didn't even try to change (that much) the UX or UI for work environments. I'm not even convinced in the slightest Facebook has solved communication in their app for non-work environments.
I'd really be more interested in design collaboration tools for teams spread out all over the world.
The initial idea was to have a tool that is going to challenge the usage of emails. For a large population of users, Facebook's UX and UI are the ones that is most familiar to a lot of people so it's seemingly low to no barrier of entry to make the switch.
If I was the one who plan the launch stages of this, I would probably do the same. Then improve and update the app as the app grows, this is where you can look out for how the people would use it in the work environment and make certain changes.
I'll put my money on Facebook to just about pull this off largely due the size and familiarity. Then again, some will be wary of privacy issues (even though it's separate) thanks to their history.
Interesting, kind of like Yammer. I know Facebook dogfoods internally to great success. Wonder how much success other companies will have with something like this.
(in the U.S.)
Facebook does Slack..
Really, Facebook does Yammer, which did Facebook. Slack is its own breed, that I actually find really useful.
