    I feel like a lot of these "spec" apps focus too much on color and sizing and spacing— something most devs can pull right from the source file with ease. More useful would be human-written notes about what happens when you click things, how things animate, notes on responsive breaks, etc.

    I don't want numbers and hex codes, I want instructions and expectations.

    Can't bring myself to drop $40 just to try it out, even with a 15-day cancellation period.

    As a Sketch user I've been using the sketch-measure plugin, which does all of this sans the ability to update as changes are made to the document - not a deal-breaker for me.

    If you ask me, something along the lines of Zeplin is where we should be heading. As cool as this is, it's a step forward whereas Zeplin is a leap.

    Just purchased it. Here is my usage experience. Need to import the file into the app, and after added some marks by clicking some buttons, when I modified my design, and the specs doesn't updated. When I tryied to import the file again, and it is working now, all marks are updated auto! I used to use specKing before, but I think the auto-update feature is a better repleacement. One qustion: I don't know where is the data saved?

      I found that data is saved in PSD metadata. Check this: open psd, open markly, make some measurements, close markly, save/close psd, open psd again, open markly and import. All measurements should be loaded. If you make some changes in psd before import all will be updated in markly after import.

    Every time another one of these shows up, I sing the praises of [PNG Express](pngexpress.com).

    It does this kind of speccing (creating text layers you can then edit to include more useful, human-written notes), and it does asset extraction far better and more reliably than Generator or the Source tools, in my experience. Also, support is aces.

      Zeplin is, pardon me here, really fucking awesome. It's in beta but it's very polished in that it doesn't crash and doesn't over-extend itself. They were mindful to make what they had work well, and just put text placeholders for upcoming features. I'm not currently doing any iOS design and just working in-browser, but the asset grabbing, color / font styles, text copying, etc., are still useful.

      It's a little slow on large files, and there are some weird UI navigation things (you should be able to invite members from the notification screen), and the messaging would be great if it could have granular settings for notification center updates / email notification. I feel that's an area that provides a ton of value for users regardless of medium - web / ios / print with .psd or .indd.

      But they update often and it's a really nice product so far.
