I've been reading a lot about different companies that I respect and how they've organized themselves around principles as opposed to looking for profit making opportunities alone. Apple, Google, Basecamp, etc. What are other companies that you've been impressed with their values?

Another example is yesterday @avinash tweeted this about Starbucks mission statement: https://twitter.com/avinash/status/546815576791056385

That’s great that you’re inspired Mike, but why does this feel like /r/hailcorporate?

I feel like design that I was inspired by in college: Tibor Kalman’s direction on Colors, Neville Brody, David Carson, Adbusters, etc. were all examples of how you could question companies’ values (and their actions) within the corporate world, rather than using design purely as a means for a profitable enterprise.

To me, Bono’s description reads like a cult. Go and ask a bunch of Apple employees how they feel about working there, I’m sure you'll get a range of opinions. I know that you could say that about any business, but I just don’t find these subjective, sycophantic statements inspiring. Maybe I’m just getting old.

I put Basecamp in there too who is much smaller, and has been successful in making value led decisions. Also Bob's Red Mill.

"organized themselves around principles as opposed to looking for profit making opportunities alone"

Make no mistake, without the possibility of profit, these principles would quickly change.
