    Hey, I'm one of the guys behind Next.

    It's good to see it on DN again! We've received some amazing feedback from the community here so far.

    I posted an ASK DN to get feedback back in the summer when we started and I shared an update a few weeks ago showing off some features and how we fixed shift.

    Re: Why Kickstarter? We only decided to go that route recently. This our first time (pre) launching an app on Kickstarter. Here's some of the reasoning behind that:

    1) We're taking a community first approach with Next and Kickstarter is a great place to continue that conversation we've started on DN, Reddit, Product Hunt and IRL.

    2) Kickstarter is a great platform to find your first 1000 true fans - it's a great way to kick off marketing before hitting the App Store (where you can't communicate with your users beyond support emails).

    3) We can generate (pre) sales while in beta giving us customers before we even hit the App Store plus committed testers who have a vested interest in the product.

    4) Making great software isn't cheap and additional funding helps us improve Next

    5) We always wanted to do a Kickstarter campaign :) learning a ton so far! Clay Herbert posted a teardown of our KS page here for those who are curious.

      Cursor swiping and emojis. Looks much nicer too to my mind.

        Reminds me a lot of Fleksy. It already supports themes and emojis, and the current beta has cursor control, among other extensions (like a GIF keyboard)

    You don’t need to enable “full access” to use Next Keyboard. We >don’t collect your data. We’d much rather sell a great product over >people’s information.

    I'm sold on all of this except background colours. A consistent UX should always takes precedence. Trying to understand the intent: For better contrast within the space it's in?

    Sorry for the Buzzkill but my Vanilla Cyanogen keyboard does 90% of this. However I am very much interested to try out the Nintype Keyboard. I am keen to see how they have managed to create a visual intensive keyboard work for daily use. Nintype Keyboard: http://jormy.com/nintype/

    $5 is a no-brainer to me. Especially if it means there will (hopefully) be a keyboard for iOS that actually works, and (hopefully) works well.

    The only thing its missing is the quick Emoji support, which honestly isn't a dealbreaker.

      Nintype is overly complex in my opinion. There are a million little gestures and ways of doing things. Some great ideas though, just too many of them in too flashy of a package!

        Its a total power user product, but at the end of the day, keyboard replacements are all power user products. I like it, but I realize its not for everyone.

        My point was mostly that the keyboard in the Kickstarter already exists in the App Store today, so there's no need to back that specific keyboard, unless you really like its visual design. (Which for me, would never be a big enough dealbreaker :)

    All these costume keyboards are nice, but not really useful when you, most of the time, type in another language.

    10K CAD looks like a low amount, but I guess the cost of living in Canada is way lower where ever they are based. It seems like they've already met their base pledge though.

      They are based in Toronto where the cost of living is pretty high. But I don't see why this kickstarter should cover their living expenses.

      What ever happened to people saving money before starting a venture?

        That's probably true, but I would have major reservations about putting money towards this kickstarter. They say they need this capital to hire machine learning engineers, which means that their predictive text and swipe text stuff isn't built out yet. That's probably by far the most complicated part of this keyboard, and where the most 'gotchas' are gonna come up.

        I don't think $10k or even $20k is gonna cover the dev time to solve those problems, but I could be wrong.
