Yet another epic video. Truly inspiring stuff. I love how he takes all pretentiousness off of design and makes it all about real people and real problems.
A lot of us do basically the same job, but not many can make it as engaging and approachable as he does.
This is the video you want to show next time someone asks you what it is you do exactly…
By far my favorite thing in this is the phrase
Something is starting to happen
He also has a Skillshare course which is longer and awesomer.
Had to watch that one too. Really awesome, thanks for sharing.
That product placement though.
That's the magic of pen on paper. pen on Field Notes. $9.95 for three.
I think he was being more comical than anything else.
"Come on, get it together." :p
Exactly! i thought it was pretty obvious he was just being goofy.
got me to buy them, ha.
I watched that video yesterday, I've been learning design to make web ui's for a few months but that just made me want to learn more about logo design. The swiftness and sheer number of idea's he knocks out in those few minutes are awe-inspiring.
probably the only reason I am proud to have gone to school (until I dropped out) was because I learned to do visual design and brand identity.
we explore with interfaces and experiences in the UX world but creating an emotion, a response from a logo, or from visual identity is something that just always keeps me interested in one day exploring that and inspires me to try to do the same in my own field.
maybe one day when I go freelance i'll do more of it :)
Automatic upvote for Draplin. That guy rules pretty hard.
"In the corner of a stupid Instagram"
Fuck. I love this guy.
A true craftsman. Makes the process look deceptively simple.
Loved the illustrator flow. Could watch this kind of thing for days.
I've always wished that, among the dozens of channels of Real X's of Y, there was a Graphic Design channel. This guy would make a dynamite host. Great stuff!
What a fantastic human being.
Loved it. 0 bullshit.
dang, action draplin at it again
Love the Saul Bass book right there in frame, starin' at ya.
So first of all I thought this was a great video. I hadn't heard of Aaron before but I'd certainly seen his work so it was great to see the face and process behind it.
I've been interested in branding and identity books lately, especially ones like the two Kumayama so I decided to seek them out.
4 days ago when I first saw these you could get them on Amazon for $99/ea. A day later one was ~$550 and the other ~$350. Yesterday they went up to $2,400 and $620. The only reason I can attribute to this is this video... am I nuts?
Wow, that's probably true. I looked at these after the video and thought $99 was too steep. Guess I was wrong.
One of them sold on ebay as recently as 4 days ago for $10.
This is the first time I've ever wanted a feature on DN to "star" a story so I never lose this video or these comments.
So incredibly awesome.
Draplin’s just a pleasure to watch and listen to.
he seems like a genuinly nice/happy guy. PS i can easily forgive him for this website http://draplin.com/
One of the best bits of design advice/guidance I've seen for a long time. Great stuff.
Found out about Aaron Draplin not too long ago. I was gonna post some of the Skillshare videos on here, but I guess I was beat to the punch.
He's freakin' awesome. Keeps everything casual and fun.
Jaw drops this is incredible. Inspiring stuff, thanks for sharing!
This is an awesome way to get into a designers head. Super cool.
Wow. That was masterful. Draplin is the man, without a doubt!
This guy is very engaging. Hearing Aaron talk makes me wanna go freelance RIGHT NOW.
I guess I won't watch this video again and let my negativism win :D
