ASK DN: Pixellated DN Logo & Broken Avatar Uploads

over 10 years ago from , I design products and experiences.

Hi all, I'm new here!

I couldn't find a previous post on these items so please forgive me if it's already been mentioned.

First, I have noticed that the DN logo pulls in a smaller size image than needed and is pixellated. Normally I wouldn't bother mentioning it but being on Designer News I figured it was quite important.

The second thing is the broken avatar uploads which cause this gorgeous error: http://cl.ly/image/3f1D3g391Z0K. Again, normally I wouldn't bother mentioning it but I'm really keen to use it ;) and us designers can't help but judge the product on the attention to little details.

Any update on the above? Is there a better way to share feedback for DN in the future?

Thanks!

Yeah, had the same problem with saving the avata in Firefox. Just use Chrome and it works fine :)

I´m using the newest version of Google Chrome and I´m not able to create an avatar.

I've also had problems in Firefox if the SVG is scaled up (proportionally) beyond the original width/height definition in the file.

Regarding the logo: it's a SVG element, so it can be scaled up without losing quality or becoming pixelated.

We'll have to look into the avatar uploads, sorry about that!

EDIT: just remembered that Firefox doesn't play well with SVG. Something we'll have to fix. Looks great in Chrome.

Firefox only has problem with SVG when not re-sized proportionally, You have a 36 x 24 original .svg file scaled to 75 x 50, that makes no mathematical sense!!!

      change the size to 72 x 48 (362 x 482) and it will be crisp! ;)

Better still, change both the height and width in the SVG file to 100%. Hopefully one day Firefox will fix this annoying bug.

Great, thanks for the update. Looking forward to creating an avatar - really cool idea (modern update on an old school format if you will).
