    Kim Kardashian

    VIDEO GAME MOGUL

At one point, the game was reportedly raking in $700,000 a day, and may have been the biggest source of Kardashian’s income.

    I'm speechless.

Mediocre site design, even worse people selection. I was expecting more from Verge.

This Verge website has fallen so low these days... after the sensationalist headlines I keep seeing the last few months... now this... a list of "important people" on which Tim Howard and PewDiePie are compared to a man that builds space shuttles and electric cars. Since when Tim Howard is that important to anyone? I bet 99% of Americans already forget he existed before this list. Pretty damn important!!! Amateur journalism.

This isn’t the first year The Verge has done this, and there’s always been an emphasis on technology, although they try to cover many other fields. What makes a soccer player who trains hard, any better or worse than an entertainer who’s known for a reality show or a startup CEO who got lucky off a phone app that’s designed to make them money? I don’t know. Maybe they’re not as smart or hard working or nobel as Elon Musk, but who gives a shit? The Verge isn’t exclusively journalism, it’s also entertainment. I think Josh Topolsky and his team intended that when they started it, and I think the current team continues that.

The thing that pisses me off the most Simon is not that he's not smart or working in tech.... it's the fact that he's not even the greatest football goalkeeper that played this year.... not even in the top 3. They could have at least tried to be biased ffs.

From the introduction page of the site:

Who are the 50 most important people at the intersection of technology, art, science, and culture?

Sport is a pretty big part of culture, and the U.S. following for the World Cup was bigger than ever this year. Even here in Ireland there was a really noticeable buzz around the team, which exploded around Tim Howard. The enthusiasm was infectious. Plus, as a sportsman, he won awards and broke U.S. national team records. Does that warrant inclusion in a list curated by a site that is predominantly aimed at a western world centered around the U.S? I would think so.

a list of "important people" on which Tim Howard and PewDiePie are compared to a man that builds space shuttles and electric cars.

They haven't compared anyone here. It's a categorised, unordered list, not a 50->1 ranking.

There was a dual Nobel Peace prize selection this year. Why only one of the recipients is on this list?

    As Surat pointed out....

Mediocre site design, even worse people selection.

    and Catalin

    Amateur journalism.

    make Ryan's statement true

WHY AM I NOT ON THIS LIST?!?!

It's unfortunate that the next, previous pagination arrows move position.

Agreed. And I wish I could use the left/right arrows on the keyboard and the up/down to scroll. It seems like the latter works only half the time (presumably because some pages have full width images).
