Not sure if this is obvious to everyone, I've been here for a while and just now figured that out.
Pretty handy feature, those notifications.
Something else you might not know: clicking someone's avatar collapses their comment.

Yes, but also the avatar. It's just two different ways of representing the user.
i agree with this. sort of.
I think that if the options are that clicking the avatar minimizes the comment or goes to the profile, the click should go to the profile.
however, I can also see clicking the avatar expanding the avatar. Some people (like yourself martin) have really cool avatars and some may want to see them a bit closer :)

Doesn't this comment on the lack of user onboarding / experience design? Don't get me wrong, I am extremely grateful for any forum like this that connects designers but it would be nice to improve a few more basic elements of this site.
Mine is stuck at 1 as well.

Sent them an email too.. so annoying
It's on our list of bugs, to fix. It keeps getting bumped for higher priority issues, but we'll take a look at it soon.
Mine was stuck once.
Assumed everyone had this problem and I posted it on MOTD. I had the lowest point then. It was like -45/+3 and I got #1 on Hall of Shame
Getting on the Hall of Fame feels really, really good, and getting on the Hall of Shame feels really, really bad. It's risky to change the MOTD.

As a community, we should continue to request that the code for DN become open source. We could then submit PRs for things we want changed.
It's really interesting to see DN features like this (and the avatar gallery for example) get reposted and receive such a positive response. It would probably be helpful to have a running list of features like this that "new" members can see and benefit from, because now that I think about it, probably less than a 1/4 of the existing DN community were around when these features were originally announced and posted (1, 2).
I just discovered some replies to me from 3 months ago.
FYI we also allow you to get email notifications of replies now too. In the profile settings:
Could we have replies on the weekly newsletter instead? That would be great if you don't care about instantaneous answers but still want to follow up the conversation.
